Brazilian-born Daniel Eastman, like so many of his countrymen, loves the sound of a roaring engine. He began driving at age 9 with frequent raids on the family garage. The youngster pushed the car away from the house and drove, nose tucked between the steering wheel and dash, toward a nearby lake where he practiced high-speed cornering on dirt roads.
Simultaneously, Daniel discovered motorcycles. As a twelve and thirteen year-old, he crashed hard and learned prudence, as well as how to put the motorcycle back together. Fortunately perhaps, Daniel's desire to drive really fast was diverted for a while to other sports. He played junior professional basketball for Minas Tenis Clube, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and then played college basketball in the United States.
Coming from Belo Horizonte, the hometown of Cristiano Da Matta and Bruno Junqueira, Daniel drew racing inspiration from the air! He waited until his son, Max, was out of infancy to pursue racing on a full-time basis. His first lesson took place with Derek Bell (against whom Daniel later raced in the Speed GT World Challenge series). Daniel continued learning from some of the world's best driver/instructors.
His early racing experiences included the Porsche Precision Driving School with Derek Bell, the Skip Barber Five Day Racing School, and numerous Skip Barber Car Control Clinics. Daniel raced the Skip Barber Formula Ford and Formula Dodge series, where he was consistently a top five finisher.
Daniel raced Max I in PCA, PBOC and SARRC. In 1999, he set a track record for SCCA GT3 on the full course at Sebring. For three seasons, Daniel raced Max II and Max III in Speed GT with great success. Daniel is featured on Page 206 of the Porsche Sport 2000, the official Yearbook for Porsche Worldwide Racing. Daniel also raced the Grand Am series.
Now, Daniel is on track somewhere in the country over 200 days a year, mostly coaching either in high-performance driving schools, or privately. His speciality is Porsches, especially GT3s.
